Just because there wasn't much Dx happening over the winter of 2016-2017, that didn't mean that there was nothing for your editors to do. The winter turned out to be extremely busy for us.
Over the winter we turned our attentions to Central America. We completely added the countries of Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. We also added the country of Aruba and that includes current RDS information obtained from a vacation there in December.
At the same time we were working with Central America, we found a very capable person to help us with upgrades and changes to the database itself. We added a much needed country field with a drop down menu and we made the // field searchable. We expanded the remarks field so we could add more information if needed. We also expanded the callsign field to completely accommodate those long Canadian callsigns. This work was finished in January.
To make Central America more complete, we've added local counties/departments to the state/province field where previously they have been left empty.
Our South of the Border editor, Jim Thomas, is in contact with officials of various Central American countries and they are working with him to give us the most up-to-date information they have on FM stations in their countries. Technical data entry for Honduras is about 80% complete (4-13-17). Work is progressing on obtaining current FM station data from Guatemala. We appreciate the help we are receiving from officials in those countries.
On the US and Canada databases, we update them daily using the FCC's Daily Digests. LPFMs are updated daily. Formats and slogans are regularly updated from RadioIntel. And every weekend we double check everything to make sure nothing got left out!
